LEAD ELECTRICAL ENGINEER – SUBSTATION FOCUS:  SHERWOOD PARK, AB

What You Offer
You are a motivated self-starter and team contributor with at least five years progressive Electrical Engineering experience, within an EPC environment [High Voltage Substation Experience]. As we seek to build our capabilities in the area of high voltage substations, we welcome individuals with this background; in addition you also bring the following skills and experience to the team:

  • Define Scope of Work: develop project specific electrical engineering requirements through the preparation of design basis documents (design criteria) and identifying / confirming standards and specifications to be used, based on client requests.
  • Plan / Prepare Key Deliverables: identify / prepare / authenticate (stamp) key deliverables (single line diagrams, electrical layouts, detailed wiring diagrams, etc.), conforming to internal and external requirements throughout various project stages (scoping studies, detailed design, etc.). 
  • Electrical Studies: experience identifying the extent of the electrical studies required, and performing and authenticating detailed short circuit, load flow, motor starting, relay coordination and arc flash hazard analysis using ETAP and SKM; harmonic mitigation experience is an asset. 
  • Procurement: ability to identify required equipment, create required material requisitions for equipment, prepare engineering specifications and datasheets based on technical requirements, review bids and prepare technical bid evaluations, review and approved vendor drawings. Coordinate with project management and procurement groups from the bid thru final delivery and commissioning. 
  • Coordinate: demonstrated ability to interface between the engineering disciplines, project engineer, project manager and the client to ensure timely delivery and accuracy of information. 
  • Supervise: lead a team of discipline engineers, designers and CAD operators to accomplish all aspects of work required, ensuring technical integrity and designs per Company and client standards / specifications, as well as overall responsibility for production of deliverables.
  • Prepare Man-Hour Estimates and Deliverable Lists: identify man-hour requirements and define project deliverables, coordinate with department head for resources required. 
  • Resource Planning: identify required resources and coordinate with Department Head to obtain approval when project awarded.
  • Plan / Monitor / Review: project scope, schedule, costs, and quality of completed work [e.g. key drawings, design concepts, calculations, etc.]. 
  • Reports: complete Discipline Lead Status Reports.

Competencies / Experience Requirements

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • 5 years (minimum) related experience;
  • Previous EPC substation design experience;
  • Alberta P.Eng. status is mandatory;
  • Motivated, self-starter with ability to work under minimal supervision.
